I’m Nothing Without You

Lord, I cannot do anything within my own strength. It is not by force (power) nor by strength, but by Your Spirit. Although I cannot accomplish anything in Your name utilizing my own strength; miraculously, by the power of Your Spirit, all things can be so.

I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.

Be Still and Know

Have you ever found yourself in a place of quietness, not really understanding your momentary need to shut-down, perhaps asking God, “What is it?  What is it that you want me to hear?” How do we go about acquiring direction?  What needs to occur so that we will know what move is after this? We are faced with questions, questions, and more questions. Psalm 46:10a (NLT) says, “Be still, and know that I am God!” When we reach that point of feeling as though we have nothing left to give, that feeling of blah, we must quiet ourselves and listen for the voice of the Lord […]

Have you ever found yourself in a place of quietness, not really understanding your momentary need to shut-down, perhaps asking God, “What is it?  What is it that you want me to hear?”

How do we go about acquiring direction?  What needs to occur so that we will know what move is after this?

We are faced with questions, questions, and more questions.

Psalm 46:10a (NLT) says,
“Be still, and know that I am God!”

When we reach that point of feeling as though we have nothing left to give, that feeling of blah, we must quiet ourselves and listen for the voice of the Lord.

I believe that everyone reaches that point at some time in their life, and during certain unique seasons of life, maybe even as often as on a daily basis. Our lives may be severely active and we may not know what to hang on to or what to release. In many instances, we have various things that try to come against us, all at once, and we need guidance beyond what our limited resources can handle to make things happen. Other times, the reverse is transpiring, and our lives are empty and bleak. No matter the scenario, we find ourselves stalled and unable to see one foot in front of the other. So what does God call us to do?

Be still my son, be still my daughter, and know that I am God.

We do not have the answer, but He does. We may not know whether to keep straight in the way that we are headed (Is this Your way God?), or to make a quick turn to the left or to the right in order to readjust to the path He has for us, but He desires to order our steps. He is over everything and He knows the best path to take.

Stop! Listen! Do you hear Him calling? Speak Lord, I will hear You!

Psalms 85:8 (NLT) says,
I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.

Absolutely nothing happens in my life that You are not privy to. Your desire is that I converse with You and pour out my heart, as a child seeking reassurance from a loving parent. You give the gift of your love and compassion towards me.

You have more good gifts that You desire to pass along to me.

As I follow You, Yahweh Roi, the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything that I need. When my emotions attempt to get the best of me and they fluctuate over the array of possibilities, Your rod and staff they protect and comfort me. I have been given the gift of coming to You in prayer, bringing my heart and placing all of my cares at Your throne of grace.

When I attempt to trust in my own strength, You tenderly remind me that it is You who renews my strength. Because You love me, You guide me along right paths. I only need to place my confidence in You.

I will not allow anyone to mislead me. I will not forget that You, Yahweh Roi, make happen the good that I experience each day; from opening my eyes at morning’s break, to each breath that I proceed to take. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to me from You, my Father, Elohim, God, Mighty Creator, who created all the lights in the heavens. You never change.

I am your prized possession, Your child, chosen by You.

Your dear Son promised that If I remain in Him and His Words remain in me, I may ask for anything I want, and it will be granted.

Oh, what a phenomenal gift!

Yahweh Roi: The Lord is My Shepherd

INTRODUCTION

As we continue to deepen our relationship with God, it is imperative that we truly know who He is. We know that He is our everything, Yes, but I would like to invite you to go on a little journey with me. The goal is to end this exploration with a better understanding and knowledge of who God is, through the study of some of the names of God.

It is my continued endeavor to grow in my faith in God and who He is, day by day. It is in the simple knowledge of who God is that my trust in Him will increase.

Today I would like us to journey alongside with Yahweh Roi, The Lord is My Shepherd.

DEVOTION

Our God, the one and true living God, is Yahweh Roi, The Lord is My Shepherd. A shepherd is defined as someone who gives guidance to someone else. They guide and direct in a particular direction. The Lord as our Shepherd intends to guide our every step towards Him.

The goal: His glory.
The purpose: That no one would be lost.
The result: Eternal life through and with Jesus Christ.

If we ever find ourselves on the wrong path, because we have the love of our Shepherd, He will guide us in all things. His loving and protective watchful hand is always within reach to steer us back into the fold.

When the road appears easy, we must find ourselves never forgetting that we are not traveling alone. We are not capable of bringing about the good things that occur. It is the protection of our great Shepherd that sustains us and brings us into those places of Victory. When the way seems easy, we may become susceptible to forgetting that Yahweh Roi, the Lord is our Shepherd, is even there. Our level of comfort can be misleading and can on occasion cause us to lose our connection to the One who is our source for everything. Our focus becomes disrupted.

We may even find ourselves, as sheep, wandering off the path of righteousness. But Great News awaits us! Our Shepherd is there to keep us from straying, if we will turn and follow Him. When we hear His voice, His call that draws us near, He safeguards us and changes the course of our mind and our heart, keeping us from desiring things that are not like Him. In Yahweh Roi, we have all that we need.

Someone might say, “Hey! I’ve heard all of this before. But I don’t see any change in my life. What you are saying sounds good, but if He has all that I need, why is my heart still broken? Why am I struggling in my relationships? Why is my wayward child not lining up to God’s will? Why is this financial stress getting the best of me?”

These are all valid questions.

For me, if I may share, what it comes down to is trust in God. I’ve tried different paths, and have put my trust in various things, but the end result has still been the same. I saw no change and I was left with disappointment. When I go it alone, I have no one to turn to for strength. I exhaust myself in trying to find resolutions for my problems.

Have you perhaps exhausted yourself trying to find resolutions for your problems? Why not try God? There is nothing to lose.

Know that we can safely place our hope in Him. We can make a decision to put our faith in God and remember that everything in life is a process. We don’t hope in what we want to happen, but we hope in the God who knows what is best, because He has the end in view. He has the full picture. Every unanswered question in our minds, He already knows the solution and the way to get us there. Does it always feel good or look good while we are going through the process? No! It does not. But, we trust in the Word of God. It all does work together for good.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

ROMANS 8:28 NLT

First, we make a decision of our own free will to give God our heart and work each day to build an intimate relationship with Him. We do that by communing with Him (simply talking to Him) through prayer, and we listen to hear what He tells our heart. What God places within our heart, when it aligns with His Word, which means that we are reading and studying the Bible and praying for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, then we will know that we truly heard His voice and can follow Yahweh Roi, the Lord is my Shepherd. He never leads us astray.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

JOHN 10:27-30 NLT

Why should we travel life blindly with no hope and no direction when Yahweh Roi, the Lord is My Shepherd offers us a guided tour. He will help us to avoid the road blocks and the detours. He will make sure that we are not traveling down the wrong side of the road or down a one-way street, the wrong way.

For me, it is realizing that my faith is built one day at a time. I, one-by-one, am able to release the weights to the God who does the impossible. He knows best; therefore, when I don’t get my way, Yahweh Roi, the Lord is my Shepherd is guiding me in the direction that will ultimately bring Him glory for His greater purpose. When I let go of my will, the way becomes easier.

We are to remember that it’s not about us. Our lives quite possibly are being developed and will be used as a testimony to others, because God knows that once we finish the process, there are those that only we can reach. Without the test, we would have nothing to share with others. If everything always went our way, we would never turn to Him. We would be pumped up in our own strength to accomplish things and would fail to give Him the glory He is due.

Regardless of how many happy days we have here, we know that we have a hope for the future, eternal life. We all suffer, but to suffer for Christ’s sake means it is not all in vain. We have true hope. We have joy and when we don’t actually feel the joy, we are to count it as such.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

JAMES 1:2-8 NLT

With all that I have endured over the past 7 years of my life, it was hard to say the least. This post may even find you in a season of hard times. If I may encourage you, know that I am still in the process, but I made a choice and that choice was to keep my eyes on God and to trust that He has a plan. Although the agony sometimes has been heavy, I had to simply decide to trust that every step forward, every day with Him, would ultimately result in all things working together for good. Every day is not good, but every day without Christ, is ultimately worse. Although life without Him may present itself as being better, my soul would be eternally lost. With anything in life, it is important to plan for the future. That includes the future of our soul.

I don’t always walk this walk perfectly and always wake up each day jumping for joy, but I have Yahweh Roi, the Lord is my Shepherd who provides the comfort that I need. When my soul becomes weary or I feel down looking at what is before me, I can choose to refocus and God renews my strength.

In every earthly relationship where we choose to give someone our heart, it comes down to trust and communication. We take the chance of being hurt and disappointed. If we are willing to take that chance with “man”, why not give God our heart. He loves us beyond how anyone else can love us. He has our best interest in mind at all times. He never does anything to hurt us, but we can’t be so quick to jump ship when things do not turn out as planned. When we give Him time and allow Him to work His will in and through us, life with Him is better than life without Him. With Him we are guaranteed eternal life. Being with Christ does not eliminate the results of life. We are in this world. But because we have Him, we have a guide along the right path. It’s a choice and one I am willing to stick with so that I will see what the end is going to be.

You are more than enough. I am more than enough. So let’s not look back. Let us finish the process.

Sometimes we desire to hear, “How do I even go about doing this? Why should I do this?” I pray that at least one heart is being touched, and that one soul is being refreshed and renewed. He never said it would be easy, but we can win the spiritual battle for our souls. We must press through and keep the end in mind. There is a purpose for it all. We cannot analyze everything based on what we see with our natural eyes and say, “Well if this isn’t working, why should I keep seeking God?” We instead must trust in the One who created us and believe that His way will bring about His desired will. We can become comfortable in uncomfortable situations because we have the comforter as our counselor, mentor, and friend. Why not open up our hearts willingly and give Him a try. He has all that we need. Who knows what we need? He does.

Now back to our regularly scheduled post. God seems to want to interrupt our regular life, our plans, with His own.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

PSALMS 23:1-3 NLT

When the Picture Looks Different

When the picture of our life looks different than what we prayed for and what we ever imagined, we must remember that it’s only a test. God is able to take that distorted view and bring it into alignment with His will. We need to let God fix what is broken so that we can be effective in our daily walks with Him. We should never give up wanting our testimony to be that of 2 Timothy 4:7, which says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” […]

When the picture of our life currently looks different than what we prayed for and what we ever imagined, we must remember that it’s only a test. God is able to take that distorted view and bring it into alignment with His will.

As I sit here knowing that I am more than enough because the God who lives within me is enough, my heart still aches and the tears still gently flow over the disconnect that is sometimes present in the relationship between myself and my son. I don’t always know how to connect, so I just show a lot of love and support, even when a positive response is not always reciprocated. A lot has transpired and my once prodigal son has physically returned, but spiritually and emotionally, the picture, at times, still looks distorted.

How do we handle things when we can’t change them?

I am learning that in the course of our respective journeys, in many cases we have to meet people where they are and realize that until God gives them the strength to do better and to be better, we cannot compare them to others or hound them about not being where we feel that they should be. Rehearsing someone’s short comings will not bring about change. Only God can change a person from the inside out. We must trust in God and believe that they are on the path that He has established or allowed for them. Until their wills line up with the will of God, struggles within those relationships may be present.

Victory is ours, but the battle is still on.

It sometimes takes someone, be it ourselves or others, longer to receive what God has for them. God is still breaking them and cleaning up those damaged places within, before He can complete the rebuilding process. This calls for patience and understanding on our part, and we must remember that there have been times in our own lives, even though our stories may be different, where, possibly, we weren’t ready to hear about how God could change us or our various circumstances and life situations. We weren’t or maybe still aren’t ready to receive all that God has for us and are not ready to walk in our true calling.

God is loving and patient, and He works to clean us up and take us through some often difficult scenarios to get us to hear Him, and to obey Him, and to follow His leading for our lives.

My son recently purchased a used vehicle. Of course, because you know how young people are, he did not ask my advice about anything. He ended up paying money for something that was on the verge of dying. Within a month, there was a lot that needed to be repaired on that vehicle. The outside and even the interior looked well maintained and presentable to the outside world, but under the hood, things were a total mess.

That is the case sometimes within our lives. On the outside everything looks shiny and polished. We dress the part. We say the right words. We interact within the right circles. But under the hood are a lot of broken down parts. We are God’s chosen, more than enough, and can be used by Him; and, we are in the fight and moving towards our Promised Land, but we still have some things on the inside that must be repaired in order to properly and smoothly roll forward in this journey with Christ.

We must choose to let God fix what is broken so that we can be effective in our daily walks with Him.

We should never give up wanting our testimony to be that of 2 Timothy 4:7, which says,

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

New Book Announcement: “You Are More Than Enough – Don’t Look Back Finish the Process”

New Book Release - Announcement

If I may, I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce to you my second book “You Are More Than Enough – Don’t Look Back Finish the Process”. It is my prayer that this will be an encouragement and a testimony to you.

God did it again, suddenly!

About the Book

But God!

He was there all the time. You see, “IT” happened. I found myself smack dab in the middle of a wilderness experience. At times, I would even call it a “NIGHTMARE”!

The specifics really do not matter in and of themselves, but within any wilderness experience, at some point, we can find ourselves telling God, “I WANT OUT.” We can find ourselves dealing with circumstances, some of which have been out of our control, which have kept us in this dark place for far too long.

How do we get out?

We keep growing in God. We keep seeking after Him. We continue to grow in our faith and boldness for God.

Our stories are not the same and neither is the way in which God will use them for His glory. The point is that He receives the glory that He is due as part of the exit strategy out of the wilderness into our Promised Land.

What He’s Done For Me

Pray the Scriptures: Lord, as I draw closer to You and feel Your presence in all that I do, I choose this day to realize how Blessed I am. I will never forget Your grace and mercy that is showered over my life. Like rain drops that pour from the heavens, so Your love is provided to me as nourishment for my soul. As I reflect on how Blessed I am, the tear that trickles down my cheek, is but a minor display of my gratitude towards You. Oh, how You love me! You gave Your One and Only Son, so that not only I, but everyone who believes in You will not perish but have eternal life. Irrespective of all my missteps and points of disobedience, You did not send Him to judge me, but to provide salvation for my soul.

Your sovereignty and plan that I may prosper and have hope in You, brought into existence a way to save me and call me to live a holy life, not because I deserved it, but because that was Your plan from before the beginning of time.

Your evidence of grace through Christ Jesus is why I am Blessed.

Pray the Scriptures: Lord, I have come to realize that obedience is the gateway to my Overwhelming Victory. As I obey You, do Your will, and follow the steps of growth in You, even when the course of my day may not always go as planned, You are seeing about me. When I delight in You Lord and mature in my walk with Christ, any negative thoughts that come to cause me to look back, I will replace them with thoughts of ALL the good deeds you have already fulfilled.

I shall ponder Your deeds!

Your glory and majesty is revealed in all that You do. Because of Your grace and mercy, you cause me to remember Your wonderful works in my life.

I never have to doubt Your love for me. You made me who I am; therefore, I am built to be used by You. Thank you, Elohim, God, Mighty Creator, for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous and I am enough.

I am more than enough because I have the God who is enough. I won’t look back. I will finish the process.

Preparation

If everything in our lives is always on the up and wonderful and lovely, at what point would we need God’s comfort? At what point would we be able to be used by God to comfort others? Preparation is defined as the action or process of making something ready for use or service or of getting ready for some occasion, test, or duty. As a whole, we don’t mind preparation, as long as we have our list to follow and agree with and/or have a clear mental grasp of all of the steps that are needed to prepare. However, I am learning that spiritually speaking, we may not always have all of the information up front or a clear path in which we will know what lies at every bullet point on a list. We must first recognize that God is taking us through a state of preparation […]

If you have been following the progression of this blog, I pray that You have felt a shift in the atmosphere. I began writing again because I felt a call from God; but, I still had no idea what direction I was truly meant to go in. God birthed in me what I have been calling “Intentional Prayers”, and I believe that connection with God, through Scripture, has brought about a significant move in my life. He is ordering my steps and giving me a true desire and will to obey Him.

I was born and raised in a home where God was first in everything, and I have had my own personal relationship with Christ for many many years. I have been a pastor’s daughter for 38 of those years. Was everything always without fault? Did I, without interruption, follow God’s perfect plan for me? Did I constantly seek Him and His will? That would be a resounding No! But you know what? Because of God’s unfailing love for me and His grace and mercy over my life, and His righteous hand of discipline within my life, He has designed me to be more than enough and someone who can be used by Him. He orchestrated all of this because I am His child. I am enough because I serve the God who is enough.

He has designed YOU to be more than enough and someone who can be used by Him.

Praying the Scriptures is nothing new, but I believe that God has shown me that what we think is so complicated or only for a special elite group, is accessible and can become natural and easy through the illumination of Him, as He shines His light over all. If God is in it, He will make it so that all may connect with Him.

On my phone is an app that links me to the ministry of Dr. Tony Evans. Occasionally a message of encouragement will pop up. Today’s message said the following.

“God can accomplish in a moment what would take years on your own. Seek Him and His path – watch Him open the doors to your Destiny.”

Wow! And this notification was received AFTER I had posted yesterday’s message regarding, “Watch God Move”. I became so excited. Confirmation! Do you see how God, in His sovereignty, connects things together as His providential will for our lives? What seems like forever for us, is only but a moment with God.

Looking back over some old posts that I originally wrote before knowing anything about the direction that God was and is moving my life in, I wrote about “Preparation”. I had no idea the turn that my life would take nor the many tests and trials that I would endure. My wilderness experience a.k.a. “Nightmare” came out of what seemed to be nowhere. But reading over this post from 2012, I now see that God was preparing me and He had a plan all along.

God comforts us so that we may comfort others.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (NLT)
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

If everything in our lives is always on the up and wonderful and lovely, at what point would we need God’s comfort? At what point would we be able to be used by Him to comfort others?

Following is what I previously posted on October 14, 2012. When I wrote it, based on the ensuing challenges that I faced, I really had no idea what I was saying. I just knew that I felt it in my spirit; a time of preparation for my life. Before all of the turmoil, before all of the dilemma’s and stress and chaotic storms in my life, God was aligning my steps so that I could watch Him move.

Watch God Move

Can you truly still be in the midst of a storm and watch as God lifts you above the clouds, where you only see Him? I am a living witness that Yes, you can. That problem, that situation, has not vanished, but your view of God, Elohim, Mighty Creator, has changed. You can now see things from a different perspective, God’s view point. You are inherently aware of His intentions for your life. Biblical application is happening before your very eyes. When you look around, you can see the presence of Yahweh Shalom, The Lord is Peace, over everything that originally had you feeling in captivity. If you are not quite there, just yet, keep going. God is right by your side. Don’t hit reverse. Let God keep shifting you into the right direction […]

From Brokenness to Someone God Can Use

Can you truly still be in the midst of a storm and watch as God lifts you above the clouds, where you only see Him?

I am a living witness that Yes, you can. That problem, that situation, has not vanished, but your view of God, Elohim, Mighty Creator, has changed. You can now see things from a different perspective, God’s view point. You are inherently aware of His intentions for your life. Biblical application is happening before your very eyes. When you look around, you can see the presence of Yahweh Shalom, The Lord is Peace, over everything that originally had you feeling in captivity; feeling oppressed, living through experiences as though there was no way out.

If you are not quite there, just yet, keep going. God is right by your side. Keep learning the lessons that God has presented or allowed to increase your faith in Him. Put all of your hope in the salvation of our God through Jesus Christ. Live as God’s obedient child. Don’t allow distractions to cause you to turn back. You have come too far to give up now. Your personal Promised Land is waiting in the direction of God. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. Now that you know Him, you have a truth to hold on to and reflect upon, as you rely on Him to navigate you the rest of the way through.

God is holy; therefore, you be holy. If you let Him, He will teach you His ways.

1 Peter 1:13-16 (NLT) says,
13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
