Yahweh Yireh: The Lord Will Provide
As we continue to deepen our relationship with God, it is imperative that we truly know who He is. We know that He is our everything, Yes, but I would like to invite you to go on a little journey with me. The goal is to end this exploration with a better understanding and knowledge of who God is, through the study of some of the names of God.
It is my continued endeavor to grow in my faith in God and who He is, day by day. It is in the simple knowledge of who God is that my trust in Him will increase.
Today I would like us to journey alongside with Yahweh Yireh, The Lord will Provide.
Our God, the one and true living God, is Yahweh Yireh, the Lord will Provide. Now this is the God with whom I am intimately familiar. How about you?
Again and again, there are times where it may seem to never be enough. Perhaps your area of not enough is in your finances. You see nothing but bills in view. Another area might be with your level of strength. You give and give and give and pour out to so many others in your life that there is never enough for yourself. Your time gets away from you and your patience is insufficient.
God sees every one of our needs, those we openly share and talk about with friends and loved ones, as well as, those needs we try to hide or prefer not to share with others. God, Yahweh Yireh, the Lord will Provide, supplies what we need in forethought to our problems or concerns, and will, in His sovereignty, bring those resolutions to light. When there appears to be no solution to be found, Yahweh Yireh is on the scene.
As our provider, there have been times when God has showed up for us when there was no other way out or through. Without his provision, situations could have potentially caved in around us.
I don’t know about you, but it is my desire to aspire to never forget the past ways that my provider, Yahweh Yireh, has made for me. He has shown to be a God who is faithful and even in a worse case scenario, His proven track record gives me comfort and peace.
Let’s take a look at Abraham and how the Lord provided for him.
In Genesis chapter 12, we read about how Abraham was called by God. God told Abraham to leave his native country, his relatives, and his father’s family, and go to the land that He would show him. God’s promise to Abraham was to make him into a great nation. God declared that Abraham would be blessed.
As we move forward to Genesis chapter 15, through a vision, God spoke to Abraham and told him not to be afraid. God would protect him and his reward would be great. Though God promised to make Abraham into a great nation, God had yet to give Abraham any descendants of his own. Abraham began trying to come up with a solution that he was responsible for. Abraham rationalized that one of his servants would be his heir. But Yahweh Yireh, The Lord Will Provide, had other plans.
5 Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”GENESIS 15:5-6 NLT
6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
It’s very important that we see here that Abraham (then known as Abram) believed the Lord. The things that God wants to provide to us, those things that go beyond our normal needs, are things in which we must believe, in order to receive.
Without belief, those shut doors cannot be opened.
God made a promise to give Abraham and Sarah a son, together, that would be their blood heir through which many descendants would follow. This disclosure of the promise was only the beginning, as this would ultimately lead to Jesus Christ, our High Priest. He provides a way that now allows us to go to God, the Father, for ourselves through Him.
